The Impact of Sophie’s Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) to Her Relationship with Agatha in the School for Good and Evil (2022) by Paul Feig
Main Article Content
Abstract
Psychological issues like narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) are often depicted in literary works, such as in a movie entitled The School for Good and Evil (2022) by Paul Feig. This movie reflects Sophie’s struggle to maintain her belief that she is a princess, not a villain. This study explores Sophie’s behavior that exhibit NPD symtomps based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5), highlighting how her grandiosity and disorted self-image reinforce how NPD shapes her identity. Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis further enriches this discussion by emphazing that her pathological narcissism can distort interpersonal dynamics, specifically, in Sophie’s relationship with Agatha. This study reveals that Sophie exhibits eight symptoms of NPD. She also experiences an unstable relationship with Agatha, which is influenced by her behavior that exhibits symptoms of NPD.
