Exploring Shang-Chi's Cultural Identity Development in the Movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this research, the writer explores the cultural identity development of Shang-Chi in the movie Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings by applying theories from Derald Wing Sue and David Sue’s theory of cultural identity development. This theory helps us see how Shang-Chi's Chinese background and experiences as an immigrant in America shape his identity. By looking at these theories together, we can get a better understanding of Shang-Chi's journey of understanding himself. The writer uses a qualitative method by watching the movie carefully and analysing scenes, dialogue, and character interaction, where Shang-Chi's character changes or learns something important. Shang-Chi's story shows how a person grows and changes. He goes from rejecting his cultural background to understanding and embracing all the different parts of it. In the end, he finds a balance between his past and present, which helps him find where he belongs and what his purpose is.
