Abstract

The study explores how education fosters students' potential, emphasizing the role of technology and memorization techniques in enhancing English-speaking skills. It highlights the importance of bilingual learning environments, interactive digital tools, and innovative methods to improve language acquisition while addressing challenges like technological barriers and resource constraints. By focusing on students’ and teachers' perspectives, the research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating memorization and technology, such as YouTube, in a junior high school setting to develop students’ speaking abilities. This study explores the use of mixed methods research, integrating both qualitative and quantitative approaches, to evaluate the impact of technology and memorization techniques on students' speaking skills in Grade 8 at Riyadhul Mubarak Junior High School. The research employs an exploratory sequential design, starting with qualitative data collection through observations, interviews, and questionnaires to understand how these techniques are applied in the classroom, followed by a quantitative phase to test the initial findings and measure students' speaking abilities through standardized tests. The study compares the effectiveness of traditional textbook methods against the use of YouTube videos and memorization techniques, with two classes serving as control and experimental groups. The experimental group demonstrated significant improvement in English speaking abilities compared to the control group, as evidenced by quantitative data. In the pre-test, the experimental group scored an average of 77.13, which increased to 81.83 in the post-test, reflecting an improvement of 4.7 points. In contrast, the control group had a pre-test mean score of 74.07, which only rose to 77.40, marking a smaller improvement of 3.33 points. The experimental group's engagement with YouTube videos and memorization techniques contributed to this significant advancement, although challenges such as technical issues and cognitive overload were noted. Statistical analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the intervention, with the experimental group achieving a statistically significant higher mean score than the control group (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that blending technology with traditional methods can significantly enhance language learning, provided content is carefully curated and learning processes are paced to avoid overwhelm.
