Resistance against Social Injustice: Leadership, Strategies, and Moral Dilemmas in the Hunger Games and Snowpiercer
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study explores the portrayal of resistance against social injustice through the main characters in The Hunger Games and Snowpiercer, two dystopian films that illustrate severe class disparities. The objective of this research is to analyze how Katniss Everdeen and Curtis Everett embody rebellion against oppressive systems by examining their motivations, leadership roles, and moral challenges. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this analysis applies Marxist theory, leadership theory, and semiotic analysis to examine narrative elements, character development, and symbolic visuals in the films. The findings reveal that both protagonists resist hierarchical social structures through different means: Katniss emerges as an unintentional symbol of rebellion shaped by media, while Curtis leads a direct and strategic revolution. Despite their differing approaches, both characters endure psychological pressure and face moral dilemmas as leaders. This study highlights the complex interplay of power, rebellion, and sacrifice in dystopian narratives
