The Translation Analysis of the Short Story "Willow the Friendly Whale" by Yupiland Using Eugene Nida's Dynamic Equivalence Theory

Abstract

This background of this research is based on the importance of translation quality in children's stories that are not only accurate in meaning, but also in considering cultural aspects, language style, and emotional impact on target readers. This study aims to analyze the translation of a children's story entitled Willow the Friendly Whale from English to Indonesian using the dynamic equivalence theory by Eugene Nida. The analysis is conducted using six indicators, such us : readability, language naturalness, equivalence of meaning, equivalence of effect, emotional impact, and delivery of moral messages. The method of the research used is descriptive qualitative by identifying the translation text in English and Indonesian. The results showed that the translation of the story Willow the Friendly Whale was effectively applied using Dynamic Equivalence theory by Eugene Nida. The application of the principle of dynamic equivalence theory can be seen through six supporting indicators which successfully created a translation that is not rigid and communicative for the target readers, which is the children.
